News From Our Chief
We now have a web site
On this site you can find out more about the MacLennan's past, present
and future. And the links will help you search for ancestors and meet
clan
folk around the world - there's probably someone from the clan near you
wherever you live or travel.
Our Clan is steeped in lore and history, the first recorded mention
being in 1217.
The MacLennan family has flourished and we have members of the Clan
Association's in all corners of the world. It is my dearest hope that
we can unite MacLennan's throughout the world in a spirit of respect
and co-operation to further
the hopes and aspirations of all members.
The Clan motto of "Dum Spiro Spero" - "While I Breathe, I Hope" is an
inspiration when we may be facing times of adversity and forms the
backbone of the MacLennan approach to triumph.
I hope that you will enjoy having discovered our web site and we
welcome new members to our Clan Association's from all four corners of
the globe.

The most exciting happening since our last newsletter is that we now
have an International web site.for Clan Maclennan. This due to the
great efforts of David Jones of the Clan MacLennan Assn USA Inc. as
well as efforts by
Bruce McLennan and Max McLennan in Australia and the urging of our
chief.
Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Scotland, and England are now
linked.
Anyone who wants to know what is going on in any of the other countries
or
send e-mails or chat can now due it by a flick of the wrist.

In other clan business we still have not been successful in finding an
acceptable weaver so we still do not have our bolt of material. Marilyn
Baumeister is still looking for a weaver.

from President
As president I would like to express my and the Clan’s deep
appreciation to David, Bruce and Max for their efforts to put together
the Clan MacLennan international web site. We now have a way to
communicate with every Assn
in the world . Not only that, we now can contact the Chief through
E-mail
or the chat room when there is a question regarding wear, history,
genealogy, or any other subject, as well as to discuss in the chat room
these same
subjects and more with anyone in the world. We will now see just how
small
the world has become.

The
Lord Lyon
Visits Stone Mountain Games
It has just been announced that the Lord Lyon, King of Arms, The Rt.
Hon. Robin Orr Blair, LO, WS, will make his first ever appearance in
the USA
in his official capacity as guest of honour at the Stone Mountain Games
in Atlanta Georgia on October 18 and 19, 2003.
The Lord Lyon is the sovereign’s ultimate arbiter in all
heraldic matters and is also responsible for determining the
Chieftainship of the Scottish Clans.
The Scottish heraldic Executive is a separate jurisdiction from those
in England and Ireland and, as such, the Court of the Lord Lyon has ,
since
1672 maintained its own record of all coats of arms borne in Scotland.
For Scots with Irish Ancestry one should contact the Lord Lyon in
Ulster, Ireland.

Scots have been coming to Hawaii since the 18th Century. They
came with Capt. Cook. Actually Hawaii’s own Princess
Kaliulani was half
Scottish . Her father, Achibald Scott Cleghorn who arrived in
Hawaii
in 1851, was born in Edinburgh. He married Princess Miriam
likelike,
sister of Queen Lililuokalani and King Kalakaua.

If one goes to http://www.live365.com/stations/240319
you can listen to a Celtic Internet Station. The station specializes in
broadcasting to the “ children of the exiles”. The
format is Celtic music with poems and stories from all over the world.

for Researchers
The MacLennan Clan recently extended its Web site to reach Clan
connections worldwide. The new site is the result of co-operation
between Clan associations in Scotland, USA, Australia, Canada and New
Zealand. You will find it at: www.clan.maclennan.com.
The site includes a "Beginner's Guide to Family Research" with resource
links to over 6,000 research sites.
Clan MacLennan WorldWide would like to provide a facility by which your
branch of our Clan could be matched up with other researcher's family
trees. GenCircles.com has been selected as a central repository and
matching service for our Clan for this purpose.
GenCircles is a non-profit site that has set up a database allowing
family researchers to match their family history information with all
others who have uploaded their own GEDCOM files to the GenCircles
Global Tree. The
"SmartMatching", as it is called, will match any individuals on your
file
with others who are in / on the Global Tree database. The great thing
about
this program is that it is also interactive, while protecting privacy.
This
means that if you are matched you can contact your match to further
share
your information if so desired.

Thought
for the Quarter
In honour of our fighting troops around the world as well as those who
are still in Iraq, I would like to present you with these two thoughts.
It is the soldier...
It is the soldier not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of
the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet , who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us
the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath
the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the
protester to burn
the flag.

About War
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The
decayed
and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that
nothing
is worth war is much worse.
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he
cares about more than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature
who has
no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the
exertions of
better men than himself.
